How To Make Gel Candles – Ornaments That Float And Dazzle
Although everyone loves candles, people have recently gone crazy over gel candles. One reason is the ability to get creative and artistic. You can easily personalize them…adding your own character when using as a gift. Another reason is that they last longer than paraffin or wax candles as they burn at a slower rate.
If you are off to buy wax to make gel candles remember that gel wax comes in three densities -high, medium and low. If you want exceptional fragrance in your candles, high density gel wax will be the best choice since it will be able to hold the fragrance better than medium or low density wax. This means that the candle will have a stronger scent.
When melting wax to make gel candles be sure to use a non-stick multi-cooker instead of the usual double boiler, skillet or saucepan. This is because the multi-cooker speeds up the melting process…since gel wax is thicker than other waxes.

For stirring the gel wax, be sure not to use anything that is made of wood. Use a hard plastic or metal stirrer to minimize bubbles in the gel wax.
Since the gel is quite thick, pouring it in the mold can be a challenge…slowly does it. In addition, molding time will be longer due the consistency of the gel wax.
A splendid advantage of gel candles is the gel’s thickness because it allows you to “suspend” or “float” different types of objects in the candle. You can also get inventive and alter the color by using bright, rich liquid dyes. Liquid dyes keep your gel wax translucent. It only takes a few drops, so be careful when adding it to your wax. You don’t want to use too much and mess up your candle.
Don’t use food coloring, clothing dyes, childrens crayons, or soap dyes. None of these are made for candles and will cause them to burn incorrectly!
You will find that these techniques will allow you to create gel candles fast and furiously while having lots of fun!
